Travis Thomas, born March 19, 1985, in Houston, Texas, passed from this life and is now smiling upon us from Heaven. He is survived by Sisters Tracy Mooney and Brother In-Law Christopher Mooney, Miranda Louise Madea and Brother In-Law Michael Madea, and Dannell Thomas, and Brother Wesley Ray Thomas and Sister In-Law Shonda Thomas. He is also survived by Father Truman Ray Thomas and Mother Betty Louise Thomas. He is also survived by many loving Nieces and Nephews. His nephews are Justin Ray Sanders, Richard Craig Bent, Ronan Edward Madea, Simon Mooney, Leighton Lewis Donnell, Ryder Ray Donnell, Jacob Wesley Ray Thomas, Taylor Nathan Allen Thomas, Maddox David Lewis Thomas, and preceded in death by nephew Jacob Lane Brent. His nieces are Dovie Raelyn Osborn and Hope Mooney. He has no surviving Grandparents. Travis was truly a congenial young man with a kind soul. The significance there is that Travis never met a stranger and always saw the good in every person that he met regardless of what they thought of him. Travis accepted Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 2005. He then moved forward in his faith and was Baptized on December 25, 2005. His quest in life was to lead others to Jesus. Travis was very funny and an excellent poet. He was also a very diligent worker, and he started a small travel ministry to help those that needed a ride somewhere but did not have the money to do so.
Travis graduated from Cy-Fair High School with honors and was an active member and public speaker with the FFA program. Travis also attended Sam Houston State University for a brief time. In that brief time, he made a significant impact. He participated in the SHSU men’s poetry slam team, and he helped them win a state competition. Travis was an active member of the Restoring Hope Church led by Pastor Charles Thompson in Huntsville, Texas. This Church was a special home for Travis. They loved and accepted him for exactly who he was in ALL walks of his life. This was a place where Travis found true Peace, Hope and Love in his current journey in life. His Pastor made a difference in his life!
If you had the opportunity to meet Travis and truly spend quality time with him, you would really know that he was smart, kindhearted, funny, sincere, generous, and his love for Jesus. Although Travis had a sudden death and it is a tragic loss at such an early age, he did touch many people’s lives. He knew how to live life to the fullest and he never went halfway with anything that he did. If he got involved with an activity or a mission, he gave all he had to everything. Even last place was first place to Travis!!
We all take great comfort in the fact that we know Travis was saved and asked Jesus to dwell in his heart forever. So, he has been forgiven of all of his sins and washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ Hallelujah! So, we know he has found true peace and all his scars are gone. We know that Travis is living with the Lord!
We as family would like to invite everyone to come join us in celebrating a special Memorial Service for Travis. The Service will be held on Tuesday January 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Restoring Hope Church. The address is 1304A Sam Houston, Huntsville, TX 77340.
