Ty Turpin 39, went to be with his savior on Oct. 28, 2024. He was born in Tyler, Texas on Aug. 20, 1985. After a few years in California, Ty spent his life in Kingwood and Houston, where he made many lifelong friends and memories. As a result of an accidental head injury, his sudden passing has left an impact on everyone who knew him.
Ty was easy to talk with and made new friends quickly, even when indulgences were made for his attempts at stand up comedy, techno music and general silliness! Ty loved being with people, and most of the time that involved sports. He played every single one, even on social teams as an adult, but excelled in soccer and baseball. He played on competitive teams and had the privilege of traveling to Denmark for soccer. Although the entire Turpin family lived many years at sports fields, some of the greatest memories were made playing jackpot, wiffle ball in the backyard, kick the can and many other games invented along the way with friends.
Ty attended Kingwood High School and graduated from Northeast Christian Academy in 2004. In 2009, he received his engineering degree at Texas Tech University, where he had many fond memories as a Red Raider. His degree provided opportunities to work and gain valuable experience in the oil and gas industry. The past seven years were spent at Turpin Engineering, helping his dad as a project engineer in the pipeline consulting business.
In 2019, when Ty was 34, tragedy struck. Due to a rare genetic mitochondrial disorder, Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), Ty lost 90% of his central vision within four months. This began a long road of diagnosis, testing, and doctor visits. Ty showed courage and determination as he eventually prevailed and learned how to use special software that allowed him to work, and be self-sufficient and able to live independently. He often thought of getting a seeing eye dog, but he finally mastered Siri and she actually became his friend.
Ty will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Kim Turpin; sisters Natalie Barnes and Rachel (Travis) Radford (children Charlotte and Marshall); aunts and uncles Jim and Brenda Turpin (daughter Jeanne), Connie (Jim) Sommers (daughters Grace and Kara), Rick (Laura) Williams (daughter Alexis); and Grandmother Karen Williams.
Ty was preceded in death by D.L. and Alice Turpin, Jack and Bettie Turpin, Richard Williams and his uncle, Ryan Williams.
Ty’s life will be remembered on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a service at 2:00 and reception to immediately follow.
Participants are welcome to honor Ty by wearing his favorite color, light blue, that made his eyes change colors, or Texas Tech red and black.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at: United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation: www.umdf.org
