She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years and the father of her children Don W. McNeely; her husband (and second lover of her life) for 29 years, James B. Wells; parents, Vera and Leonard Bradley; brothers Leonard Earl Bradley, Robert E. Bradley, John T. Bradley, Hugh Wesley Bradley and Gerald Ray Bradley; sisters Annabelle Louise Humphrey, Mildred Lee Parker, Carolyn Lucille Beam and Bertha Elaine Hamilton. She is survived by her children Don W. McNeely and wife Wilma, Judy Kathryn Hatfield, Gregory Thomas McNeely and wife Robin, stepdaughters Jamie Herrman and husband Robert and Joni Miller and husband Mark, and grandchildren Belinda McNeely, Karen Adam and husband Neal, Jamie Harper, Jack O’Brien and wife Mary, Jake O’Brien, Nicole Kerman, Kelsey Paladino and husband Anthony, Tyler McNeely and wife Taylor and twelve great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, beloved in-laws and friends. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Vera lost her first husband, Don W. McNeely, on December 6, 1966. She then attended Sam Houston University, earning first her degree in Education and then went on to earn her master’s degree in Secondary Guidance and Counseling. She then began her 19-year career in education.
Vera met and later married the second love of her life, James “Jim” B. Wells on November 22, 1980. They had 29 wonderful years together, traveling the USA in their R.V. They belonged to an R.V. Club for over 25 years and that extended family was truly important to both of them. She worked in the business world for over twenty years before going to college to become a business teacher and later a counselor in both the Humble ISD and the Conroe ISD and volunteered many hours in the Guidance Department at Conroe ISD and Montgomery ISD after retiring from Conroe ISD.
Vera volunteered for five years at Conroe Regional Hospital, where she managed the Hospital Gift Shop. She later volunteered at the Assistance League and spent many hours organizing the Library at First Methodist Church. She loved her church and the Beacon Sunday School Class. During this time, she began volunteering at The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County and became a member of the Board of Directors. She thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with the many activities at the Museum.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her but would not want them to grieve for her as she is in her Father’s mansion…celebrating with all those loved ones waiting there to greet her.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to First Methodist Church of Conroe or The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County (P.O. Box 2262, Conroe, TX 77305).
