She was born and raised in Houston, Arkansas, amongst a large extended family. Violet later moved to Perryville, Arkansas where she earned her nursing degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. She moved to Houston, Texas, in September of 1956 and went to work for several doctors in the Hermann Professional Building.
Violet always knew that she wanted to be a nurse and that remained her profession for 20+ years. She had what she described as a “midlife” change of employment and earned her real estate license from taking courses at the University of Houston. Violet was a successful real estate broker for almost 40 years before retiring at the age of 80.
For 22 years, she and her husband, Jay, enjoyed living in the golf course community of Panorama Village in Conroe. Violet enjoyed working in the yard, taking long walks in her neighborhood, and reading the Houston Chronicle Newspaper. She was a long time member of the Woodlands Methodist Church, serving as a part of the Stephen Ministry, and attended the Conroe First United Methodist Church in later years.
Violet loved traveling, especially her cruise through the Panama Canal, journey to Israel with her church group, several visits to Germany, and numerous trips around the United States visiting family and friends. But what gave her the greatest enjoyment in her life was her 3 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren!
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nezzie; husband of 54 years, James Howard Scott, Jr.(1932-2018); sister, Mildred Marie Hightower (1929-30) beloved brothers James Edward Hightower (1934-36), Johnny Wayne Hightower (1942-2009), and Jesse Eugene Hightower (1948-2024), and beloved grandson David Michael Day (1969-2021). She is survived by her sister, Ineta Hightower King, her 3 children: Sandra, Stuart, and Robin, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, cousins, and many friends.
A visitation for Violet will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 East White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas with a celebration of life at 2:00 PM.
