

Amelia Anninos, 85, of Ft Lauderdale, Florida, died peacefully on January 7, 2026. The third oldest of four children of Mary and Jerry Anninos, she was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 8, 1940 and grew up in Miami, Florida. As a child she attended Coral Way Elementary, Shenandoah Elementary, and Miami Senior High Schools and always at the top of her class. A graduate of the University of Miami and received her BA degree in Education.
Amelia began her teaching at Merrick Elementary school in Coral Gables Florida and taught for over 25 years with her tina teaching years at Kensington Park Elementary School. She primarily taught the third grade. She received numerous accolades as Best Teacher of the Year as Amelia was a tremendous influence in the lives of many former students who even still reached out to her just recently to thank her for her dedication, kindness, and caring. She was talented, intelligent, and a great mentor to all who knew her.
After teaching, Amelia moved to Ft Pierce, Florida where she enjoyed many close relationships with both family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with family, enjoyed cooking amazing meals and hosting family gatherings. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. She loved people and always looked at how best to make a positive difference in all the lives she touched. Amelia then moved to Ft Lauderdale to be closer to her sister Demitra Filias, brother-in-law Nick Filias and her nephews Jerry and George. She also loved visiting with her niece Nicole McKintyre on occasion and her brothers Peter Anninos and Chris Anninos as she watched them all grow up throughout the years.
Predeceased by her parents Mary and Jerry Anninos and oldest brother Peter Anninos, Amelia is survived by her sister Demitra Filias and brother Deno Anninos (Kwon), Jerry and George Filias, and other nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on January 31, 2026, at 10:00 am at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, located at 9950 NW 29 St, Coral Springs, Florida, 33065.
Inurnment will follow on January 31, 2026, at 12:30 pm at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, situated at 1500 S State Road 7, North Lauderdale, Florida, 33068.
