Ana was born on September 30th, 1935, to Juan Maria Ureña de Luna and Ana Leonora Fernandez Gomez. After her mother passed away during childbirth, Ana was raised by her aunt, Enriqueta de Jesús Ureña de Luna. It wasn’t until she was 14 years old that her father revealed the truth of her birth at her sister’s wedding. On that same monumental day, she met Victor Raul Dumé, who would become the love of her life.
They married on January 9th, 1954, and began their family in the Dominican Republic with three children: Pablo Manuel, Esther Marilyn, and Victor Daniel. In the early 1960s, searching for a better life, they moved to New York, where they welcomed two more sons, Franklin and Omar Alexander.
Ana worked tirelessly alongside her husband to support their children, first in a lens store and later as a talented seamstress in a clothing factory. Her home was a sanctuary; she was known for helping countless family members settle in the United States, often hosting them for months at a time.
She expressed her love through her cooking—most notably her delicious “sancocho”—and loved nothing more than family get-togethers filled with bingo and laughter. While her skills as a seamstress were unmatched, Ana shined brightest because of her selfless spirit. She gave to others without ever expecting anything in return.
Our beloved Nana is survived by her five children and all of her grandchildren, who will carry her legacy of kindness forward.
