Ann Clarissa Simon Porter, known to her family and friends as Victoria, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97. Though we feel her absence deeply, we are grateful for the long, full life she lived and the love she gave so generously to all who knew her.
Ann was born on January 10, 1928, in Carriacou, Grenada to the late Anthony Simon and Mary Simon, and was the ninth of twelve children. She was predeceased by 10 of her siblings: Prescott Simon (King), Veronica Prime (Felicia, Boon), Victoria Prime (Felina, Chokes), Garnett Prime, Prince Simon (Dougan), James Simon (Clem), Caroline McDonald, Princess Simon, Jane Simon (DeeDee), and George Simon (Alladin).
Ann was the proud mother of two daughters, Jennifer Simon (who passed in 2004) and Jacqueline Simon. She was also a second mother to her great niece, Andia Simon. She raised them with unwavering love. Later in life, she met and married Dr. Ernest Porter, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing in 1998.
As a young woman, Ann was a gifted student and a talented track athlete. She began her career as a teacher in Carriacou before transitioning into midwifery—a calling that led her to a life devoted to caring for others, including delivering several of her nieces and nephews.
In the 1950s, she migrated to England and continued her nursing career. In the early 1970s, she moved to the United States, where she worked faithfully as a registered nurse until her retirement.
Ann’s interests were as rich as her spirit. She loved reading, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and tending to her garden with care and pride. Her greatest joy, however, was found in the kitchen, where she whipped up soulful dishes and poured her love into every meal.
Few knew that Ann also had a wicked sense of humor, especially when it came to the misuse of the English language. Her dramatic retelling of conversations or events had those around her rolling in stitches and added warmth to every conversation.
She is survived by her youngest sibling, Ann Joseph (Tana, Eleanor), her daughter, Jacqueline, and nieces and nephews too many to mention. Her kindness, wisdom, quiet strength and willingness to help others touched many lives and left a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
