Antero was born on July 26, 1932 in Lima, Peru to Antero Pozo and Adelaida Buendia. He was an only child raised by his mother. Antero married the love of his life, Vilma Rosa Hoyle, on April 5, 1956 at Scott AFB in Illinois. They raised two sons, Andy and Carlos, and three daughters, Rocio, Chari, and Norma. Antero proudly served in the United States Air Force for 30 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) in 1985. His military career sent him to eight different states, Canada, Brazil, and two tours each to the Panama Canal Zone and Spain. After retiring from the USAF, he planted roots in South Florida and worked for AID/Westinghouse in Fort Lauderdale.
Antero had a love for futbol whether he was playing, coaching, or watching it on television. He was thrilled when he got to see the Peru national football team play soccer in the 1982 Mundial in Spain. Antero was always the life of the party and he lived his life to the fullest making sure to enjoy his time with his family and friends.
Antero was preceded in death by his daughter, Rocio, and his mother, Adelaida. He is survived by his wife Vilma, his four children, Andy, Chari, Norma, and Carlos, his granddaughters, Annemarie, Gabriela, Elisabeth, and Delaney, his great-granddaughter Gemma, his sister-in-law Nelly, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Kraeer Funeral Home on University Drive in Coral Springs, Florida. Flowers can be sent to 1655 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. He will be laid to rest at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.
