Araceli is survived by her children, Dr. Araceli Quevedo and son in law Dr. Angel Cadiz from Coral Springs, Florida; Hector Quevedo, and daughter in law Louise Quevedo from Redondo Beach, California; sister Pilar Alvarez Mendiguren of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico; grandchildren Alejandro, Gabriel and Julian Quevedo from Redondo Beach, California and Amaya Hill of Ponte Vedra Beach and Dr. Alan Cadiz of Coral Springs. She is preceded in death by her sister Trinidad Garcia from Miami, Florida, and her brother Manuel Alvarez Lopez from Havana, Cuba.
Araceli (Tuti) was born on February 5th, 1931 in Havana, Cuba to Manuel Alvarez Fernandez and Araceli Lopez Rodriguez, both from Asturias, Spain. She graduated from Colegio de Lurdes in 1942, and, afterward from Gregg’s Academy for secretarial studies. She attended The University of Havana for advanced English language studies and Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City where she studied English literature. She married Hector J. Quevedo Rodriguez, a watch maker and jewel merchant in 1953. She worked for General Motors Corporation (GMC) as a bilingual, executive secretary in their Havana branch and later, in different capacities, at GMC’s New York City branch and in GMC’s headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. The couple welcomed 2 children into their home, Araceli and Hector. Her children remember her as a kind and gentle mother who had high standards for excellence and instilled in them the desire to excel in their goals.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, Florida 33071 from 5 pm to 9 pm and her funeral Mass will be on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in 1401 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, Florida 33071 at 11 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Araceli (Tutis)’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Saint Vincent De Paul Society, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1401 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, Florida 33071.
