Pastor’s 90th Birthday Celebration - May 2019

I’ve had the joyful privilege of knowing Pastor Toro almost my entire life. My mother says we met in 1986, so my twin sister and I were 3 years old, our brother Nicholas was 2.

Our family attended two churches where Pastor Toro pastored over the years: Igelsia Bautista Emanuel and also Southside Baptist Church (both in south Florida). Pastor’s preaching style was unique. He kept the discussions real and engaging, often acknowledging the challenges of the Christian life, or asking sarcastic questions to hold us accountable with love and humor.

Not only would we see Pastor Toro at church, but he was also our Wilton Manors neighbor from the 1980s. I have wonderful memories of our family riding our bicycles to see him and Mrs. Toro, or walking to their home, then driving when we got older. Most recently he was my parents’ neighbor once again at Holiday Springs in the city of Margate.

My sister and I were baptized by Pastor Toro when we were 9 years old. I remember him coming to our Wilton Manors home and we sat at our dining room table as he taught us the significance of water baptism and communion. Our family also spent a lot of time at Pastor Toro’s Wilton Manors home. He was a wonderful Shepherd to us as a young family. My siblings and I never met our biological grandfathers, but God gave us Pastor Toro and our family adopted him, and he adopted us, and we became family. 

My mother, sister and I have fun memories of being Pastor Toro’s pen pals. He would typically end his letters “Cradled in Christ” and reference Proverbs 3:5-6. 

On Sunday, November 20th, I held his hand on least time as my brother and I talked to him about our many fond memories. 

I’m so grateful for the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior. And I’m grateful for Pastor Toro for teaching us God’s Word, leading us through Bible studies, praying with and for us, and sharing God’s love because that what we’re called to do. 

Thanking God for Pastor Toro.  He has been such a blessing to me and my family.  He has such a passion for God's Word and for all to be saved. He taught in such a way to make all to understand.  Also with Christmas cards, he had us examine them to see if they were scriptural. He will truly be missed.  Thank God for the time we had with him.  May God continue to comfort his family & friends until we meet again. 🙏🏾 🙏🏻🙏🏽

Thank you, Pastor Toro, for being a man after God’s own heart. Thank you, also, for being so kind to my Mother, Lorraine, & me.  We look forward to seeing you again in Heaven someday.  Until then, we’ll try to “pray without ceasing” & to “give thanks in all things.”

Pastor’s 90th birthday surprise celebration 

What an amazing man of God!
Our beloved Pastor Toro reminded me of what I think the apostle Paul would have been. Always reasoning in the synogoges and was all things to all people! He and Bev had a very special way with people and was always helping someone. This photo was when we reunited in 2018, a wonderful time we had.
Will dearly miss the phone conversations and prayer over the phone. We count ourselves very blessed to have been a part of their lives. Thinking of all the family at this difficult time. 
We will meet again!

Rain or shine pastor Toro drove to our Mainland community every week for Bible study (until 2019 before his 90th birthday). Even during pandemic he would gave us surprise visits. He reminded me there is an ultimate motivation to serve our Great King. He loved much, that’s why he served. Even to his last days he was faithfully conducted weekly services and prayer meeting to his Spanish congregation. Thank you Jesus, You blessed us with this great servant, through whom many lives were transformed. Thank you for the Toro family. Soli Deo gloria

Much loved Pastor to my family when we moved to,Sydney in 1978. Thankful for a man who preached and led our church faithfully with his wife. Even as a child, I  loved the advice he would give to couples getting married. He always said the husband should carry his wife on a golden pillow, such a lovely image. He eagerly spoke of the Lords return and I would look out through the windows of our church building into the sunset sky and expect it to be that moment. Sending much love to Debbie and David and family.

Pastor Toro was a men of faith and a faithful servant of God, he was always there for you, praying and give you the comfort when you need it, we love you pastor Toro and we going to miss you and We praying for God give the comfort to all his family. Carlos and Beatriz 

All praise to our Heavenly Father who in His great wisdom chose this man and his family to start a great work in Australia.
Pastor Dave Toro was a kind and loving man who became a father figure to the dozens of young people at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sydney. He showed us Christ Jesus in everything he did. We loved him and because of his faithful ministry,  we shall see him again one day.
