Mr. Thompson was born on February 1, 1920 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He is the second of five children born to Blanche and Lionel Thompson. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, one brother (Martin Thompson) and three sisters (Edith Nairne, Iris Bennett and Bascilia Porter). In 1929, the family migrated to Jamaica. He got baptized in 1940 and was a devoted servant of Jehovah until his death.
In 1949, he met the love of his life, Winnifred Agatha Blair, a devoted sister. They were married on September 30, 1951 and together they had 10 children: Claudette (Robert), Dorothy, Hayden (Cheril), Edwin, Theodore (Genevieve), Alwin, Juilet, Suzet, Hugh (Judith) and Jannette.
In May 1991, he migrated to the United States of America and resided in Margate, Florida.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his beautiful and amazing wife of 66 years, 10 children, 22 grand-children: Eugene, Golden, Novelette, Roshene, Faylene, Peta-Gaye, Nicolette, Chevroy, Monique, Sophia, Joe-Dean, Tara-Lee, Candice, Danika, Kaela, Shawn, Jordan, Casey, Shardai, Alyssa, Layla and Jada. Two great grand-children (Azalea and Olivia). Two sister in-laws (Alice Thompson and Daphne Bailey), brother in-law (George Blair), nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Brother Thompson was loved by many and fondly called Mr. Dougie, Brother T., Papi, Pops and Daddy. He had a passion for building things and if you asked him, he would tell you he was an “Inventor.” He also loved reading the newspaper, sharing experiences from his time in New York in the 1940’s and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Brother Thompson was a kind and loving person who was always looking for ways to help others. He loved the ministry and his zeal kept burning as he was often seen sharing the Kingdom hope. He loved his brothers and sisters and helped many to learn about Jehovah. His last words were “I will see you soon.”
We are grateful for the time we had with him and will carry on his legacy with pride.
Douglas' life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses (North Pine Island Road, Tamarac, FL 33321).
