Obituary of Edward Thomas Curran
Edward Thomas Curran Sr. passed away on May 4, 2022, at the age of 82. After several months of battling cancer, Edward died peacefully with his beloved wife Charlotte, their daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by his side. Edward was born in Gary, Indiana on August 1,1939 to Father John Edward Curran and Mother Mary Ellen Donlin Curran. Edward was their only child. His nickname to many was Mickey. Edward attended Catholic school until he began high school at Tolleston High School in Gary. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy along with one of his cousins. While stationed at Pensacola Naval Base he met his bride of 63 years, Charlotte. Edward and Charlotte had two children Edward Jr. and Denise. When Edward’s tour of duty ended with the Navy, he and Charlotte returned to Gary, IN to be near his family. Edward worked several jobs until he was hired as a police officer for the Gary Police Department. In 1969 he moved his family to the Sunshine State where he went to work at the City of Miami Police Department. He went to school while working and received an Associates degree in Criminal Justices from Miami Dade College. In 1975 he moved his family to Coral Springs and worked for the CSPD until 1980, finishing his 30-year career at Broward Sheriff’s Office. Edward had a strong work ethic, loved the officers he served with and took pride in serving his community. In 1994, Edward and Charlotte retired and began traveling the country. They belonged to the Airstream Camping Club – Florida Treasure Coast Unit, where he held several positions and was president twice. He loved to drive his motorhome and cooking for his friends. He and Charlotte spent summers in Franklin, NC at the Cullasaja River Campground for nearly 20 years. He often said he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. Edward loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything else. He was a great listener, confidant, and supporter of their endeavors. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and by his son Edward Thomas Curran Jr. He is survived by his beautiful wife Eleanor Charlotte Cravey Curran; daughter Denise (Skip) Reed; daughter-in-law Patricia Apicella Curran; grandchildren Ashley (Daniel) Reed Speerin, Alyssa (Brian) Reed Clanin, Mary (Edoardo) Curran Meyer, Michael Curran; and great-grandchildren Brielle Speerin, Keegan Clanin, Massimo Meyer, Colton Speerin and Kinley Clanin. A visitation for Edward is planned for Monday, May 9th from 5 pm to 8 pm. A celebration of life will begin at 6:15pm. The visitation will be at the Kraeer Funeral Home on 1655 N University Dr, Coral Springs, FL. All are invited to attend. People wishing to honor Edward’s lifelong commitment to family and service can make donations to Tunnel2Towers in his memory. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Curran family.
