

FERNANDO JONES, 97 of Coral Springs, Florida passed away on December 1, 2014. Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, he was the former husband of the late Ana Isabel Jones Carbonell, the son of the late Claudio Jones and Betina Jones Vargas and father of the late Fernando Franciso Jones. He was an attorney in Costa Rica and received his MSW degree from Columbia University in New York. He retired from the United Nations and later from the Sunset Park Family Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. He loved to write about the beauty of every day life. His writing started with"Correo de Nueva York" initially published by La Nacion in Costa Rica and in later years, when he became a bit of a radical, La Prensa published some of his submittals. Of more substance and longer lasting impact was his contribution to writing the charter of the political party Liberacion Nacional in Costa Rica. As a professional, he traveled throughout post WW11 Europe and Latin America, always offering hope and helping the needy to a better life and children always brought a smile to his face. This was his true calling. He lived to help others. "Don Fernando" was preceded in death by his five brothers, Rodolfo, Mario, Claudio, Luis and Alfredo. He is survived by his son Mario Eduardo Jones and his wife Idie, his grandson John James Jones and his wife Melissa Ann, his grand daughter Jennifer Jones, five great-grandchildren, 17 nephews and nieces and his beloved adopted family Carmen Maria Araya Arce, Silvia Maria Torres Araya, Diana Torres Araya and Jose Miguel Torres Araya. A memorial mass will be said on Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1400 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, Florida. After the memorial mass there will be a gathering at the KRAEER FUNERAL HOME 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, Fl. 33071 from 12 noon to 2:00 PM., family is hoping all will gather in his memory to share some time and stories together.
