Gloria Sue Hobbs Obenland “Go” (71) passed away June 19th, 2013 in Boca Raton, FL. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Obenland of Boynton Beach, FL, her son Dr. Kevin Obenland of Alexandria, VA and daughter Andrea Obenland of Clearwater, FL.
Gloria was born and raised on a farm in Glidden, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Lowene Hobbs, along with her three sisters Joan, Shirley, and Connie. She attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City where she met Robert, who she would later marry in 1964. They lived in Chicago, IL for nine years, Keller TX for fifteen years, and Coral Springs, FL for thirteen years. Since retiring in they have lived in Boynton Beach, FL. since 2003.
Her love of quilting began in Texas but it wasn’t until she moved to Florida that it really took off. She was a member of the Coral Springs Quilter’s Guild and the Gold Coast Quilter’s Guild. She was also a member of the South Florida Dept 56 club “Village Landlords”.
You could always find her in her sewing room working away. She was an accomplished quilter, winning multiple awards in various juried quilt shows.
She once said that she always had this desire to be a mother. Not only was she a devoted and loving mother to her two children but also a “band mom” to her children’s classmates throughout their high school years.
Friends may call at the Kraeer Funeral Home at 1655 N University Dr. Coral Springs, Fl on June 28, 2013 from 5-9 pm.with a funeral service at 7:00P.M. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations be made to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami @ www.papcorps.org
