Janet Kareen Glasse-Baquero was born on December 13, 1952, in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies, to Cecil and Corine Glasse. She was the youngest of her siblings and was affectionately given the nickname “Ms. J” by her father as a baby, a name lovingly used by her family throughout her life.
Janet grew up in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, and attended Saint Andrew School for Girls, where she made lifelong friends and remained deeply connected to a community she cherished. After graduation, she migrated to New York. Missing the warmth of home, she returned to Jamaica and worked at Citibank on King Street for a short time before beginning a rewarding career with Air Jamaica. After retiring from Air Jamaica, she moved to Florida, but her heart drew her back once more to Jamaica. During that homecoming, Janet met the love of her life, Luis Francisco Baquero Ochoa, affectionately known as “Pachin.”
Janet and Francisco were married on August 10, 1993, in Mexico. They made their home there for several years before relocating to Paraguay, then Venezuela, and eventually retiring in Florida. During their 18 years of marriage, they traveled the world together; something Janet truly loved and deeply treasured. Throughout her life, Janet also believed in giving back and faithfully supported her cherished school, Saint Andrew.
A quiet philanthropist at heart, Janet gave thoughtfully and often without recognition. She had a truly giving heart, understood the importance of education, and supported many family members in their educational endeavors. Although she and Francisco did not have children, she loved and supported children both within her family and beyond it. In honor of her beloved husband, she provided scholarships each year for students majoring in engineering in his cherished city of Quito, Ecuador.
Janet loved to travel. Some of her most treasured trips were to South Africa in 2023; Scotland, Wales, and England in 2020; and Spain and Portugal in 2019. She also enjoyed visiting Amsterdam, France, and Italy. Closer to home, she delighted in Jamaican Pantomime and looked forward to attending Carnival in Trinidad whenever her schedule allowed. Janet also had a deep love for botany and horticulture, especially orchids. She found joy in gardening, nurturing her plants, and admiring their beauty. She especially enjoyed visiting botanical gardens, where she could wander among the blooms and take in the peace and splendor of nature. Janet loved to exercise and especially enjoyed walking.
On Friday, May 1, 2026, Janet made her peaceful transition to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francisco (“Pachin”); her sister, Hope Glasse;
and her brother, Cordell Glasse. Janet leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Phyllis (Canada), along with her nephews, nieces, cousins, and lifelong friends;each of whom will forever hold her love close. Though she is gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts.
As we say farewell, we give thanks for the gift of Janet’s life and the love she poured into those around her. She will be remembered for her grace, her giving spirit, her sharp mind, her poise, and yes; her beautiful sense of fashion. Her memory will live on in the stories we share, the traditions we continue, and the quiet moments when we feel her presence near. May we honor her by loving generously, living fully, and carrying forward the light she so freely gave.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” (Revelation 21:4).
