Joe "Old Joe" Buehler

BUEHLER, JOSEPH S. “Old Joe” of Coral Springs, 89, passed away on July 25, 2017. Born in 1928 in Schenectady, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur G. Buehler and Eileen M. (Sullivan) Buehler. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Shirley E. (Sinsig) Buehler. He is survived by his three children, daughter Katherine Badame (husband Richard), daughter Susan Thornton (husband David), and son Mark Buehler (wife Roseanna), as well as grandchildren Elizabeth (Brian) Viggiano, Teresa Badame, Mary-Katherine (Jeff) Kovacich, Stephanie Badame, Amy (Michael) Payne, Alissa (Omar) Avila, Steven Buehler, Victoria Buehler, Robert Buehler, and great grandchildren James, Paul, Conor, Zachary, and Andrew. Joe is also survived by a brother Frank Buehler (wife Karen) and sister Carmel Spanbauer (husband Joe, deceased), and a number of nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Siena College in Albany, New York. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1945 to 1948. He worked with Bendix Launch Support Division at the Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo space program, and worked at Bendix Avionics in Fort Lauderdale until his retirement in 1985.

Known by many as “Old Joe,” he was a longtime member of St Andrew Catholic Church in Coral Springs, serving as a lector, sacristan, and Eucharistic minister, and he sang in both church choirs. He was a founding member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Andrew Catholic Church, and served as an officer with the North Broward District Council.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at Kraeer Funeral Home, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 2, 2017 at St Andrew Catholic Church at 9950 NW 29th St., Coral Springs FL 33065.
