I know it's been many years but I will never forget growing up as neighbors in North Lauderdale. All of us kids played together and experienced so many wonderful lasting memories! John was a very special man and was like family throughout those years in the early 1970s until we moved in 1980. It was certainly a very special and meaningful time not only to me but to my mom, dad and sisters too! Though the years may pass, those memories have never faded! My heart and prayers go out to all of you! John was loved by so many and touched so many lives!

Dear Aunt Phyllis, Mary Jane. Maureen, Louise, Joanne, J.D. and Dennis.  Also, all grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I have started this message over and  over but had a hard time finishing it.   With a heavy heart there are not enough words to say how sorry I am  of the tremendous loss of my beloved Uncle John.  A wonderful husband to my Aunt Phyllis and the greatest father to my six cousins.  I am so blessed to have had my uncle in my life for decades.  Even though it was decades it still wasn't long enough. I remember being upstairs  by my Granny's  when Uncle John would come home in his Air Force uniform.  So young and so handsome.  I cherish all those childhood memories on Freedom Place. The best memories of my life. Then the wonderful memories in Florida.   My uncle lived his life being kind and loving to others.  I can vouch for that. My aunt and uncle's door was always open to everyone.  It didn't matter if you were staying for a week or for years. You were always welcomed.  Uncle John, I guess I always felt that you would always be here.  But you showed me the importance of  cherishing  everyday..  I did love how if you had something to say to me you never held back,  Even though at the time I didn't act like it.    
I will always cherish the beautiful memories. You will be greatly missed. Your warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered forever. 
I will always miss and love you.

This is for you Uncle John:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

My deepest condolences to Phyllis, Mary Jane, Maureen, Louise, Joanne, J.D., Dennis, and all of your family members. I am blessed to have the most wonderful memories of John that span six decades. He was there for so many of the DeRosa family occasions that just wouldn’t have been the same without him. He baptized my son, Brian and two of my nieces, renewed my parents’ wedding vows at their 60th wedding celebration, presided over my memorable “Engaged 
Encounter “ before my wedding, just to name a few memories. He was always there for us, no matter what we needed. It was always a treat being at a Friel and DeRosa family get together, because you could always count on entertainment by way of singing and funny jokes and stories provided by John. Thanks, John, for all the smiles and the love.  You were one of a kind. ❤️ Urs

Jonh we met you in 1971 our children was playing together and we became friend you give my first contract and refer me to a second one and a third one  then J.P. electrical contractor got born , I never forget this you been a very good friend. We wish to Felix and children’s grand children’s our sincere condolences. Sorry we can’t be at your funeral 

We are so very sorry to hear about the passing of our dear friend, John Friel. Our families have known each other for many decades and we treasure the memories shared together. We hope to stay in touch with all of you and pray for each of  you. John will be missed and is remembered fondly.

Jeanne and I are praying for God's  comfort and love for you Phyllis and all your precious family.

My  Uncle John  was a wonderful person who meant so much to me . I could always go to him with any questions that I needed help with he was always kind and a loving Uncle he was a wonderful singer with a Beautiful voice , he had the greatest sense of humor with always a funny joke. Even if he told me the joke 100 times. I truly love him and I will miss his wisdom  and strength  and his  loving ways for everyone.  Uncle John you will be forever in heart and my prayer

Dear Aunt Phyllis, Mary Jane, Maureen, Louise, Joanne, JD, Dennis and families:  I have no words to express the depth of the sadness I feel at the loss of my dear Uncle John.  Your home was always a sanctuary to me, in NJ and FL. ‘ It takes a village’ was no cliché in my life, as Aunt Phyllis and Uncle John were always there, providing love, support, validation and a sense of security.  Reverend John still is, of course, softly surrounding us all with love and hope.  May it bring peace and solace to you to know he lived his ideals faithfully and contributed selflessly to countless lives throughout his 87 years.  His was a life well lived.  Love, Clarabelle
