
John is survived by his loving wife Phyllis of 63 years; children: Mary Jane, Maureen, Louise (Louis), Joanne, JD (Vicki) and Dennis (Liz). Grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris), Michael, Megan, Brittany, Marissa (Phil), Shannon, Lyndsie, Sienna and Sean; great-grandchildren: Alexa, Brandon, Katelyn, Nicholas, Emily and Evie.
John was born on November 28, 1933 in Jersey City NJ to John and Sarah Friel (née McLaughlin). He is preceded in death by his Parents John and Sarah; Sisters: Mary Pelle, Jean Wehr, Helen Flaherty and Sarah DeQuarto.
John was a deacon for the Archdiocese of Miami and served at his parish of St Elizabeth Ann Seton in Coral Springs, FL and formerly St Bernard’s in Sunrise, FL. John was an accomplished tenor and used his gift in praise and worship of our Lord. In addition to serving God he also served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean war.
John was a kind and generous man with a witty sense of humor. He was a man who loved the Lord, his family, his country and his dogs.
A funeral service for John will be held Monday, August 23, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1401 Coral Ridge Dr., Coral Springs, FL 33071. A committal service will occur Monday, August 23, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S. State Rd. 7, N. Lauderdale, FL 33068. A visitation will occur Monday, August 23, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1401 Coral Ridge Dr., Coral Springs, FL 33071. Services will be livestreamed via the St Elizabeth Ann seton website: www.stelizabethannseton.org.
