

José Monroy, 74, passed away on February 27, 2026, in Coral Springs, Florida. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, on January 3, 1952, to Antonio Monroy and Felicidad Cintron Monroy, José ’s life was defined by intellectual curiosity and a pioneering spirit.
A proud graduate of Central High School in Puerto Rico, José went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. On December 19, 1976, he married the love of his life, Carmen Milagros Monroy Battle, in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico—beginning a 49-year journey of partnership and devotion.
As the founder and CEO of Monroy Aerospace for 32 years, José was a titan in the general aviation industry. He was a hands-on leader who personally designed long-range fuel tanks for Mooney aircraft and pioneered essential collision avoidance systems. His professional achievements were mirrored by his diverse personal interests; he was an accomplished engineer, a licensed commercial pilot, a certified SCUBA diver, and a dedicated amateur radio operator.
José was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Felicidad. His legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Carmen Milagros Monroy Battle; his son, José Javier Monroy and daughter-in-law, Monica Maria Mendez; and his cherished grandson, Carter Mendez-Monroy. He also leaves behind his sister, Diana Fernandez; sisters-in-law, Wanda and Erika Battle; nephew Charles Fagundo, and his nieces, Erika Melanie Fagundo and Jamiee Lenne Ensenat.
