Leonard was born on January 16, 1954 in Queens, New York. He graduated from SUNY Albany with a BA in History. In 1976, he moved south with his family to Coral Springs where he taught history in private schools and began work in building and manufacturing. He eventually accepted a position as a Production Supervisor at Town & Country, a division of ABC Supply Company Inc., working there for more than 20 years. Len was a great family man and loving son, brother and uncle. Late in life, in 2021, he married Mary Ellen Zondorak Perez, the love of his life. He lived with her in Parkland with her mother, Evelyn, and golden retriever, Elsa, until his death. He unofficially adopted Mary Ellen's three sons (Jorge Perez, John Perez, and Alexander Perez) and welcomed their spouses and children as his own: Jorge and Alex Weill; John and Cari Perez, along with their daughters, Mia and Sofia; and Alexander and Corrine Smith and their daughter, Ophelia.
Len was a social, active and spiritual man with a lifelong passion for military history, heraldry, and weaponry, and was deeply committed to understanding and preserving the past. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, barbecuing and cooking. His family and friends will always remember him as an intelligent, compassionate and generous person who loved to learn, and especially loved life, family and friends.
