The Milfort family commemorates the incredible life of Louis Milfort, a man who lived by Bible principles and honor. Louis, affectionately known (by his wife) as LouLou, (his children and grandchildren) as Papi, (his nieces and nephews) as Uncle Lou or Mon Oncle LouLou, fell asleep in death, at home, in Coral Springs, FL, in the presence of family on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Louis was born on March 29, 1938, in Port Au Prince, Haiti to Francois Milfort and Lorette Nerette Milfort. Lorette preceded her husband and children, in death, at a young age. Louis had four siblings, Dieudonné, Nicole, Jusseleine, and Marie-Edith. Louis and his siblings were very close. His older brother, Dieudonné, gifted him a bicycle to spare Louis the long walk to school. To his sisters, Louis stood firm as a protector. Their closeness carried through life’s ups and downs, they were inseparable. All his siblings, except Dieudonné preceded Louis in death.
Louis was raised by his devoted father, Francois Milfort. Francois worked as a community nurse, in Ganthier, Haiti. Francois worked hard to pay for primary and secondary education for his children. Louis completed his secondary education at Lycée Firmin, where his love for the French language (both written and spoken) took shape.
Louis loved to write; his calligraphy flowed like a gentle melody, each word gracefully written. In his early years, he wrote letters to his then “friend” Jeanine Legros. Louis and Jeanine met circa 1957. He watched over Jeanine as though she were his little sister. Their closeness grew into a profound bond; later blossoming into love then marriage.
On July 19, 1969, Louis and Jeanine married in Port Au Prince, Haiti. They emigrated to Brooklyn, New York the same year. Overtime, Louis and Jeanine raised five children, Junia Milfort Prosper, Louis Gregory Milfort, Farah Milfort Philippe, Joelle Milfort Battle, and Judith Alexandra Milfort Perard. As a husband and father, Louis gifted his family with joyous core memories. He invited neighbors, cousins, and friends to his home for games and children's parties; those moments remained etched in the hearts of many. Louis’ sister, Jusseleine, resided in Montreal, Canada. He frequently took road trips to visit her. Family trips to Montreal provided opportunities for his nephew and nieces to bond with his children. To this day, the cousins share a cherished connection. Louis was the man behind the camera! He captured moments through photographs and film, played music from vinyl records, danced with his children; he created a home where laughter, affection, and love were abundant.
Louis was steadfast and true to his word, a source of quiet strength. His love extended to friends and family alike, especially to his nieces and nephews, many of whom he helped journey from Haiti to Brooklyn, New York. He was a constant source of guidance and support in every chapter of their lives.
In 1993, Louis and Jeanine moved to Coral Springs, FL. After some years, they met a young man named Jerry Francois. Louis and Jeanine took special interest in Jerry, welcoming him into their lives and hearts. Over time, Jerry became a bonus son and brother to the family.
In time, Louis began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness July 07, 2007. Louis firmly believed the words found at Revelation 21:4, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Louis’ surviving family holds firmly to the same hope.
With deep love and gratitude, we honor the memory of our beloved husband, father/grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend, whose life reflected enduring faith, compassion, generosity, and unfailing love. His legacy remains forever in our hearts.
We thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support during this time. We love you all!
