Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Lucille was the beloved daughter of Robert Clayton and Teresa Feeley Clayton. At the age of four, she moved with her family to South Florida, where she would spend the rest of her life. She lived in several communities across Dade and Broward Counties, but always came back to Margate, where she felt most at home.
Lucille was preceeded in death by her devoted husband, John “Jay” Patrick Oates; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rosenberg; her parents, Robert and Teresa Clayton; and her sister, Patricia Nelson (the late Ray Nelson).
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Suzanne Specht (Rick Cullen); her son-in-law, Tim Shue; her grandchildren, Al Rosenberg (Mollie Anderson) and Tyler Specht (Valery Specht); and her sisters, Ellen Berry (the late Bill Berry), Barbara Thornton, Dorothy Granros (the late Dale Granros), and Roberta Noble (the late Jimmie Noble). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will continue to carry her memory forward.
Lucille will be remembered as a caretaker and for her deep love of family, her resilience, and the quiet ways she made those around her feel cared for and at ease. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family will host a Celebration of Life on Thanksgiving.
