Marlene was born in 1932 in Bucharest, Romania, to which she would relay her fondness for the beautiful country she grew up in as a young child and the difficult journey she and her family endured in their immigration to New York City in 1946. Though she was born in a different country, she loved and adopted the U.S. as her own. As a child in Bucharest, she began Her relationship with God. She loved the Lord and lived her life as a servant to Him in how she loved, cared for, and did for others. Marlene had compassion and understanding for all, treating everyone she knew with kindness and thoughtfulness. She was a person who lived in service to others, especially her family and loved ones. Throughout her own struggles, she was always one to offer support, advice, wisdom, and LOVE. Her remarkable upbringing and journey were often shared through stories and flavored her life in her grace, style, and eloquence. She was a supremely intelligent and cultured person who loved and appreciated the art, music, and literature that the best of human nature could create.
Marlene was a selfless, devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her and she enjoyed spending time with each one of them. For her 90th birthday this past August, she was delighted with a surprise party in Massachusetts with all her children and grandchildren present. This event meant so much to her, and gave her joy beyond words. It was an amazing testament to her and a great celebration of her life. The mountains of western Massachusetts were her "happy place", where she cherished many fond relationships, had many wonderful memories, and always enjoyed the beauty of its natural surroundings.
Marlene also enjoyed spending time with a close group of friends who met often for shared meals and meaningful conversations. She greatly valued their support and friendship, and always tried to give them the same in return.
Marlene lived for, and is survived in life by her (4) children, Audrey Feder McDonough, Matthew P. Feder, Michael P. Feder, and Christine Feder Curtin, her brother Peter J. Belsky, (9) grandchildren Rachel McDonough, Sarah McDonough, Andrew Feder, Gianna Trombino, Matthew Feder Jr, Emily Coughlin, Elizabeth Coughlin, Abigail Coughlin, Isabella Feder, and nephew Alan Feder. She loved them all so very much, and in an incredibly unique and individual way. Her daily life was consumed with thoughts, prayers, caring, and conversation with each of them.
A private memorial service honoring the life of Marlene will be held in Charlemont, MA where she spent many happy years enjoying the countryside of the Berkshires. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to donate to Food For The Poor, an organization that was important to Marlene.
