Miriam Donegan

Born August 18, 1939 Managua, Nicaragua. She married Dennis A. Donegan, 1981. Graduated Midwood High School. Graduated Drake Business School, New York, New York, USA. Won Florida State Championships, women's singles, 1977. Played in the nationals at Forest Hills in the main draw for ten consecutive years. Played major international tournaments against Billie Jean King. Margaret Court Smith, Maria Bueno, Julie Heldman, and Francoise Durr. Played mixed doubles with Arthur Ashe at Forest Hills John Alexander of Australia, Jaime Fillol of Chile, and Joaquin Loyo Mayo of Mexico. Selected to represent the East in "Sears Cup Matches" international competition. Instructed such exclusive students as former mayor of New York City, John F. Lindsey and family, Senator Jacob J. Javitz, Judge Burt Roberts, Congressman Herman Badillo and family, Robert Redford, Barbara Streisand, Rod Steiger, and Dina Merrill. Participated in several exhibitions and pro-celebrity tournaments with Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, Roscoe Tanner. Ronnie Holmberg, Pancho Gonzalez, Bill Cosby, Bill Talbert. and Althea Gibson. Presented "Outstanding Service Award" by Eastern Tennis Association (ETA), 1977. Assistant manager of six indoor courts. Tennis, Inc. in New York City. 1962-63. Manager, West Park Racquet Club, 1964-65. Head pro, West Park Racquet Club, New York City, 1965-71. Co-owner and manager, The River Tennis Club, Hastings on Hudson, New York. Ranked No. 2 in Florida in women's 35, and No. 16 nationally in 35s, 1980. Won 35 Division Grass Court nationals, 1981. Played US Open in the 35 Division. Flushing Meadow (New York) for three years. Member, United States Tennis Association (USTA). Hobbies: jogging, travelling, cook-ing, spending time with German Shepherd dog.
