Nellie is survived by her son Eddie Mercado (Christine); sister Antonette Roublick (Peter), New York; grandchildren Athena Ayers (Charles), Eddie Mercado, Jr., Steven Mercado, Vincent Mercado, Anthony Mercado; great granddaughters Elizabeth and Emma Ayers. She is preceded in death by her husband Ruben Mercado, daughter Diane Mercado.
Nellie was born March 19th, 1939 in the Bronx, New York, to Bienvenido and Carmen Melendez (Berrios). She graduated from Walton High School and started working at Metropolitan Life Insurance, where she learned data processing. She married Ruben Mercado in the Bronx, and was blessed with two children. They later moved to Long Island, where they raised their family. She worked for Suffolk County Social Service Department as a Data Processor, where she retired from. When she was widowed, she moved to Florida, but always missed New York.
Nellie was a loving mother, aunt, sister and to all who new her. She enjoyed her music, her family especially visits from her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her nieces. She had a great sense of humor, great laugh, and exuded love. Nellie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Florida from 1-4pm at Kraeer Funeral Home (1655 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071), With a service at 2pm. A visitation will also be held in Bronx, New York on Friday May 7th from 3-7pm (Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 10465). Funeral Mass on Saturday May 8th, 10:30am at St Benedict Church (Bronx, 10465), and she will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, New York.
