Though his passion was as a hands-on instructor of comparative arts, English, fine arts and humanities.
A lifelong learner, Blaine pursued multiple disciplines: an accomplished pianist and organist, playing professionally in Chicago, a prolific writer of articles, novels and poetry. Blaine also dabbled in audio & video production, computer programming (including creator of personal finance software), and real estate . For recreation, Blaine enjoyed model railroading and extensive travel throughout the 49 contiguous states, Canada, and Europe.
A loving husband and father, he was always available and could be trusted to offer sage advice. He was a valued teammate at Trivial Pursuit, but had a weakness for honey buns.
