Richard is survived by his wife of twenty years, Jana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Peggy née Ketcher.
He was born on March 7, 1940, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to William
Hover Lyon and Alberta Katy Lyon née Kramer as an only child.
He graduated from Reading High School and after that proudly served in the United States Army.
He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany, during the East -West political crisis caused by the dividing wall being built in East Berlin.
Following his honorable discharge, he worked in several companies in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and in one of them he met his first wife Peggy.
Together they moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where - after his taking some specialized courses at Mississippi University in Memphis, Tennessee - he became active in the local Pirelli Works Union. He retired in 2022.
Richard loved to travel, especially to cruise.
He visited nearly whole world.
He loved bungee jumping and his record of 18 jumps from a restaurant tower in Auckland, New Zealand, was published in their local newspaper. See photo below and you’ll see the tower.
He met his second wife Jana on a cruise around South America, in 2003.
Together, they became Florida “snowbirds”, spending the Floridian hot months in Europe.
His health though was becoming progressively fragile.
Richard’s body started to fall apart and he was diagnosed with a number of serious diseases.
He chose to keep this news within the family. Despite his immense bravery and efforts of his doctors, treatments were unsuccessful and in the end Richard, husband and dear friend, passed away on June 19, 2026 at 2:35 pm.
Richard will be cremated at Kraeer Funeral Home in Coral Springs, Florida.
According to his wishes it will be a strictly private ceremony.
Anyone with fond memories, photos, stories or keepsakes is welcome to feel free to share on Richard’s memorial website on the Kraeer Funeral Home at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/

Though deeply missed, Richard’s spirit, gentleness and friendliness will live in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him.
His wife will dearly miss the sunshine of her life, as she calls him.
He will be also remembered as a tough and tireless advocate for veterans - his passion for and contributions to the veteran cause inspired many others in our community.
To join her in celebration of Richard’s life, Jana would like to ask anyone, who is willing and able, to donate their time or money in Richard’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, to do so at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ as a way to honor him.
See photo below.
Jana would like to thank all his friends and relatives and neighbors for visiting him to cheer him up in all those different hospitals he was treated in. Not everyone can count on such a supportive circle around.
Jana would also like to express her deepest gratitude to all, who shared in her sorrow, for their help, for their kindness and their heartfelt condolences. See photo belows.
We will see each other on the other side again.
Until then, a long goodbye.
