The second eldest of six siblings, Sharon was born on July 1, 1936 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Josephine Sutton Evans and Woodrow William Evans. After graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1954, Sharon worked as a waitress, salesperson, and dance instructor. She retired from Walmart where she was a salesperson and department manager for twenty years.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard, brothers William and James, sister Betty Jo, son Roger, and grandson Justin. Sharon is survived by her daughter Jodie, son Donald (Kathe), brother Bruce (Carol), sister Janice (Rick), grandchildren Dale (Brittany), Jillian (Pedro), Tiffany, Bryan, Ryan, and great-grandchildren Tyler, Riley, Gemma, Isaiah, Kamya, and Reagan.
Sharon was an avid reader and often shared her books with others. She was also a skilled seamstress who sewed all her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes, as well as blankets and dolls, and could fix any issue with your clothing. If anyone asked her to sew something for them, she would figure out how to do it. Sharon was smart and wise, and kept her mind sharp by working on her daily crossword and word seeks on the back patio, and she loved a good game of scrabble. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Sharon had a deep and abiding faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and was a prayer warrior for her family and friends. It was this faith that carried her through her battle with breast cancer.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday August 28, 2026 at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery: 2001 SW 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315.
Following the service, we will gather at the Swanson home to share some of our favorite memories.
