Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Life for Shawn Monroe White, who unexpectedly went to meet his Heavenly Father in his home on May 27th in Coral Springs, Florida at the age of 56, will be held on June 11, 2022. Shawn was born in Waco, Texas on February 13, 1966. The second of two children, he was the precious son of Sally and the late Herbert White. He was the beloved husband of Michelle Eileen White and stepfather to Anthony Casseus.
At a young age, Shawn attended various churches with his family as they travelled through Europe. He had an expressed curiosity for the mystique, the history and the statuary within the iconic cathedrals and churches they visited. As a young man, he continued to explore various churches throughout the Tampa Bay area, gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized. He recently shared with his mother that he was developing a renewed relationship with Jesus. He was seen on his knees praying before The United Heart Icon shortly before his death. We know he’s finally found his church home in heaven.
Shawn will be greatly missed for his love of life and joyful spirit. He had a playful and endearing way of making people smile. As a little boy, Shawn had an insatiable curiosity about how ‘all things worked’. Countless toys and household items were always being dismantled and recreated. As a teen, his love of nature led him to Busch Gardens where he had his first job. Shawn attended Plant High School in Tampa and graduated from Florida State University, where he majored in Business Administration and Finance.
There was a special quality about Shawn that is hard to put into words, but if you knew him, you also know how people were immediately drawn to him. He could light up a room when he walked in. Shawn was a gentle soul, both outgoing and reserved. He cleverly avoided being photographed on most occasions. As handsome as he was, there are countless pictures of him mischievously hiding his face. He had a life marked by numerous, diverse talents that he didn’t boast about. Shawn loved working out, being active and adventurous…swimming at the beach; overnight boating and deep-sea fishing with friends. He was a super cyclist for years and held a Black Belt in Karate. As a talented drummer, he enjoyed filling in for local bands at a moment’s notice. He loved music. He and his wife had signature songs that they dedicated to each other. Shawn had a heart of gold and was kind and gentle to others in need. He was a frequent volunteer at Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa and helped out with disaster relief as a licensed security agent after Hurricane Michael. Shawn was also an avid European, World War I and II, Civil War and Japanese history buff. He could rattle off dates of battles and treaties alike and had a collection of fine Japanese swords. He held delightful conversations as an informal dinosaur expert and was a forever Star Wars fan. Of course, there was his passion for and extensive knowledge of cars and the auto industry. His family spent several years in Germany where Shawn saw his first Porsche on the autobahn. That’s where his fascination with cars was born- an interest he shared with his Dad. He knew particulars about cars, old and new, and yet to be released. Family and friends often consulted him for advice before purchasing a car. He also loved a good sandwich and enjoyed making pizza.
After college, Shawn pursued a career at Ford Motor Credit Company where he served in a supervisory role for many years. That is where he first met the love of his life, Michelle years ago. The path of love led them back to each other in 2019, and they were wed last year, beginning a new life of adventures together as a family. Shawn and Michelle had an undeniable connection and extraordinary love for one another. Their love was based on deep friendship and mutual admiration. Shawn loved his stepson A.J. and was extremely proud of his academic and athletic achievements. Shawn had relocated to Coral Springs from the Tampa Bay area and was most recently employed at John Knox Village.
Gone too soon, but the twinkle of his eyes will remain in our hearts forever.
God called him home too early, but he will never be forgotten. His memory will be cherished forever by his wife Michelle E. White (née Miller); stepson Anthony J. Casseus; mother Sally B. White (FL); sister and husband Michelle and Rajpal Arulpragasam (FL), their daughters and families, Dr. Shiara Arulpragasam and her partner Justin Washington and their daughter Kalani Washington (FL); Dr. Amanda Arulpragasam and her husband Nevin Bhardwaj (RI); in-laws Bruce and Sharon Miller and Michelle’s Grandmother Natalie Miller (FL); brother-in-law Michael and his wife, Monica Miller and their children Madison and Matthew Miller (FL); aunts Willie Mae Garrick (SC), Allen Gray (TX), Theola Baylor (SC); Uncle Osborne Garrick (SC); Uncle Freeman Garrick and his wife Catherine (SC); close family friend, Dr. Keely A. Smith and her daughter Sabine Elam and countless first, second and third cousins who have all been so dearly supportive during this difficult time.
The family extends a special thank you to Shawn’s cousins, Rev. Dr. Edward Boston, MD, FACOG, CAPT, MC, USN and First Lady Deborah Boston of New Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, Virginia for providing pastoral guidance and conducting Shawn’s service. Services are by invitation only.
