Stanley Seymour Gordon

Stanley Seymour Gordon—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend—peacefully entered eternal rest on July 18, 2026, at the age of 94. He was surrounded by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the dedicated teams at VITAS Healthcare and Broward Health Coral Springs, Florida. Stanley was blessed with a long and meaningful life, leaving behind nearly a century of treasured memories, friendships and a legacy of love that will continue for generations.

Stanley was born on November 7, 1931 in St. Mary Parish, Jamaica, West Indies, to James Gordon and Ivy Louise Jackson. He grew up alongside his siblings Joyce, Daphne, Zada and Sammy. He married the love of his life, Gloria Elaine Osborne, on June 14, 1958 in Jamaica, beginning a beautiful partnership built on love and unwavering devotion to family.

In 1966, Stanley and Gloria Gordon migrated to Laurelton, Queens, New York seeking greater opportunities. Their three young sons — Donovan, Dave, and Wayne — remained temporarily in the loving care of their grandmother, Ivy Osborne, in Port Antonio, Jamaica. Stanley and Gloria never lost sight of their dream of reuniting their family and worked tirelessly to provide for them. Stanley drove an ice cream truck by day and operated a taxi by night. His commitment coupled with the dedication of his wife working double and often triple shifts as a registered nurse, allowed them to achieve that dream. Within a year, they were able to bring their sons from Jamaica to the United States. Their sacrifice would create a life filled with love, opportunity, and security for their children and the generations to come.

Following years of hard work in a variety of professions, Stanley transformed a hobby into a successful career pursuing his passion for photography. In 1972, he founded Gordon Photographers Studio in Laurelton, Queens, where he became widely known throughout the community for his exceptional portrait, wedding, family, and commercial photography. For more than twenty-five years, Stanley captured life's most treasured moments and built lasting relationships with generations of families who entrusted him with preserving their memories. In 1998, after building his wife's dream home in Coral Springs, Florida, he retired and closed the studio.

In 1977, Stanley was reunited with his daughter, Joan Latty, marking an important moment in his life's journey. Their reunion created opportunities to share life's milestones together over the years.

Stanley answered to many names throughout his life—Dad, Grandpa, Pops, Pop-Pop, Sonny, Uncle Sonny, Mr. Stanley—but perhaps his favorite in his later years was "Mr. Handsome." Whenever someone greeted him by that nickname, his face would light up with a smile as he proudly replied, "You got that right!" followed by his unmistakable laughter that brought joy to everyone around him.

Though the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria, in 2019 left an immeasurable void in his heart, Stanley continued to be surrounded by the unwavering love of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their devotion carried him through the remaining years of his life and filled his days with comfort, companionship and purpose.

Stanley's greatest accomplishment was never measured by the business he built or the photographs he captured, but by the family he loved so deeply. Stanley was not always a man who expressed affection with words. In fact in his later years, those who knew and loved him often teased him and said "boy you mis-er-able". But beneath his tough exterior, was a big heart.

Stanley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Elaine Gordon; his cherished sons, Dave and Wayne Gordon; and all of the loved ones who welcomed him into eternal peace.

He leaves to celebrate his remarkable life and carry forward his legacy of love: his daughter, Joan Latty and her husband, Walter; his son, Donovan Gordon and his wife, Heather; his daughters-in-law, Gillian and Maureen Gordon; and his sister, Zada Harris.

He was the proud and loving grandfather of Gregory, Ricardo, Danielle Latty, Gabrielle (Cook), Dionne, Jenel, David, Dylan, and Jonathan Gordon.

His legacy continues through his adored great-grandchildren: Laryssa, Jeremiah, Olivia Latty, Azari, Naseer, Ceylah, Malik, Zachariah, Naiyah Cook, Mason, Zoe Hill, and Braylan Gordon.

He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, neighbors, and countless lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, generosity and humor.

Although our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in knowing that Stanley has been reunited with his wife Gloria and sons, Dave and Wayne Gordon. His love will continue to live on in every story shared, every photograph treasured, every laugh remembered, every lesson passed down, and every life he touched.

Stanley Seymour Gordon will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
