Sylvia Pico-Martines

Mrs. Sylvia Pico-Martines, nicknamed “Pipa,” died surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle against Pancreatic Cancer at Broward Health Coral Springs on September 26, 2023, in Coral Springs, Florida at the age of 53.

Sylvia was born on April 29, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York, along with her two identical triplet sisters, Nancy and Janice to her parents Vicente and Amelia Pico. She graduated from St. John’s University in 1993 with a degree in Pharmacy. She was a licensed pharmacist for 30 years and spent most of her career working at Winn-Dixie. She was distinguished as Pharmacist of the Year in 2013.

Frank and Sylvia started out as friends having been classmates since the second grade. They fell in love after graduating High School and built an incredible family together. They welcomed their first child Amelia in 2000, followed by Frank Matthew in 2002 and Daniela in 2003. Her children meant the world to her.

She loved to bake and made the most delicious oatmeal cookies and cake pops. She enjoyed musicals, especially Next to Normal, and made sure she had a ticket, no matter the company producing it. She was an avid coffee drinker and movie theater popcorn eater. Her favorite thing to do was catch Pokemon on the app PokemonGo. She was always trying to chase the next shiny Pokemon she could get her hands on. Most of all, she was loving and kind and gave everyone who was important to her her whole self. She went the extra mile with gifts and treats making sure everyone felt just how much she loved them. We couldn’t have asked for a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Sylvia will be gravely missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her mother, Amelia Pico. She is survived by her husband, Frank, and children, Amelia, Frank, and Daniela. By her father Vicente Pico, sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Lawrence DeMaio, Janice and Kenny Brady, and Nancy and Angelo Ferrigno, and eight nieces and nephews: Victoria, Matthew, Christopher, Jessica, Angelo Jr., Elizabeth, Vicente, and Evelyn, of Coral Springs, Florida.

A visitation for Sylvia will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1401 Coral Ridge Dr., Coral Springs, FL 33071. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S. State Rd. 7, N. Lauderdale, FL 33068.
