June 26th, 1955 - January 15th, 2019
We are heartbroken to announce that on January 15th, 2019 Gilles passed away suddenly in a tragic accident. He was a most loving, generous, and handsome husband/partner for 46 years to his wife Helen (Brunet) Marion.
Rock, mentor, and loving Dad to Nathalie Marion-Fazel and his late son-in-law Shafie.
Loving, loyal, kind, best friend, and Daddy to Lianne (Marion) Lapierre and mentor, and father figure to Robert Lapierre.
Gilles loved his grandchildren more than the world itself. He was doting, and devoted to his four grandchildren Keemya and Elika, Alexandre, and Léo.
Son of the late Napoléon Marion and the late Maria (Champagne) Marion.
Son-in-law to Curly and Claudia Brunet.
Predeceased by his mother-in-law the late Florence (Brière) Brunet who loved him as a son.
Brother to Lizette (André) Grenier, Montreal, Serge and Judy Marion, Cornwall, Denis (Isabelle) Marion, Gatineau, and predeceased by his brother Marcel (Pierrette Lamoureux) Marion.
Brother-in-law to Richard (Heather) Brunet, Kitchener, Michael (Laura) Brunet, Toronto, and predeceased by Brian Brunet and Philip (Debbie) Brunet.
Good friends and in-laws of Mitch and Denise and the Lapierre family.
Papa Gilles will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, the fabulous five and their spouses, and Lianne and Rob’s close friends.
Gilles was blessed to have an abundance of special friends, the late Frank Smart, Marcel, Denis, Fern, Bruce, Bert, Jim, Steve, Mitch, Pat Curran, Reg, the Clayton group, his Summerheights family, and all the many good friends Gilles held dear to his heart. He will be sadly missed by Sue and Lawrence Douglas.
Gilles was loved by everyone who knew him. He was kind, humble, loyal, and always jolly. Gilles was our foundation, everyone felt they could turn to him for his wisdom, guidance, and friendship. His generosity was matched only by his humility.
He married Helen in 1976 and together they raised two amazing daughters. Their family grew to include 2 wonderful son in laws and 4 of the sweetest grandchildren. Gilles built the family home that became the rock where so many of us gathered to grow stronger with his and Helen’s guidance and support. There was always something to drink, and eat and a ready welcome for all friends and family.
Gilles graduated from Forestry at Sault College, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in 1977 and worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources for several years before he began his career as Superintendent Wood Purchaser at Domtar Fine Papers. Gilles was a loyal employee for 23 years before the mill closed their doors. He then started his own company Seaway Valley Forest Management where he did Consulting for land and woodlot owners. He was also a sales representative for Curran Renewable Energy LLC.
He loved the great outdoors, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, curler, and we cannot forget to mention that he had the best hair.
Arrangements under the care and direction of LAHAIE AND SULLIVAN, CORNWALL FUNERAL HOME, EAST BRANCH, 614 First Street East, (613-933-2841). Per Gilles’ request, no sad service will be held but instead we will gather in early summer for a Celebration of his Life at Summerheights Golf Club. The family will communicate details at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to CHEO, Ottawa, would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
