Rory's smile was one of pure joy. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform at The Waverly and witnessing him enjoy himself so much and light up the room with his talent, enthusiasm  and that amazing smile is something I will cherish and remember forever. All my love and condolences to his friends and family. He was truly special.

I wish I had a photo, but I was never able to meet him in person.  We met through his love of music. Watching his excitement and joy over every song was something special. We didn’t know each other for very long, but he was one of those people you knew was special. He embraced life with such an excitement and joy. He took the time to get to know everyone, and really cared to know about you and your life. He will be missed. I may have not known him long, but he certainly left an impact on my life. Rest well my friend ❤️

Agent Hamar (Rory Steven), your presence brought warmth and camaraderie to the Undermind community. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace 🕊️

I will never forget Rory's glee when recounting his rock-star moments, his realizations of new music, and his latest adventure. I'm so glad to have known him, seen him shine, and lived his life to the fullest.

I'm going to miss seeing him dance and smile.

At pachena bay last year I had found this dead creature on the beach. 

I was absolutely hammered it was 5am I should have been in bed. But anyways I carried it back to the stage with my bare hands convinced it was a weird alien and I had made a new discovery. Everyone thought it was pretty disgusting and I should put it down but Rory was extremely interested in it and observing it with me. He ended up taking this photo and posting it because he thought it was as cool as I did. In that moment I knew he was rad and we could be friends.  it was a very special moment we shared together and I’m so sad we won’t be able to have more of those but I’m so thankful so that memory and I will cherish it forver ❤️

I remember the day Rory was born, it was my birthday too! It was a mix of joy in his arrival and fear that he wouldn’t survive the day. How lucky we are that he was here for 44 years. Not long enough. We will miss you Rory. Love Maureen  and Brian  Bent

Rory, we were so young here. I can still feel this moment with my arms around you, holding you so close, your thumb on my pulse. I have so many amazing memories with you, many of which revolve around our shared obsession with music. Remember that time we rode back to Vancouver from Langley in Submission Hold's old van, Kilgore? Rattling around with their instruments and equipment in the back. Remember watching Propagandhi? You were sitting on the lip of the stage to take pictures, and the insane meatheads in the crowd took your chair and dismantled it. The pieces of it crowd surfed away without you. I grabbed the bass player by the pants to get him to stop the show and demand everyone give back your chair. We actually saw Fiona Apple when she was still performing in public! You took that amazing photo of Jen Thorpe when Submission Hold opened for Fugazi that ended up on the cover of Maximum RocknRoll. We went everywhere, no matter how many bus/ferry rides/cab trips and on foot/wheel, as long as it would take us to the music, a shared home. You gave people so much joy with the sounds you made, whether it be a mixtape or a DJ set. You were an incredible friend, the best teenage boyfriend ever, one of the most wonderful people I have ever known. Your heart and mind so open, so curious, so empathetic. No one who met you didn't feel like their best selves in your company. You were so honest, so forthright, so caring. Hilarious and talented and weird and wild and cool. You kicked Death in the teeth so many times, and I guess no one can go on doing that forever, not even you. Bodies don't last, but souls do, and yours is as vast and complex and beautiful as the expanding Universe. The pain of losing you is proportional to the love we all felt and will go on feeling for you until we join you in the cosmos. You will never be gone from any of our hearts. I feel you with me now more than ever. There are no boundaries between your majestic spirit and anything anymore.
