Barbara Kamilla Hasko

Barbara Kamilla Hasko, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away on August 17, 2026. She was 91 years old. Barbara was born on April 19, 1935 in Frankenstein, Germany to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Gunter) Schoneich. She had five brothers and sisters. Before her retirement, she worked for over 40 years as a lunch monitor for Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School and a bus aide in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.

Barbara, or Oma as her grandchildren loved to call her, grew up in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1963 at the age of 28. Working on word searches every night, Barbara, impressively, taught herself English when she arrived in the U.S. She met Kenny Hasko, the love of her life in 1963 and they were married on April 10, 1966. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. Kenny and Barbara welcomed Kenneth H. Hasko to their family on August 25, 1977. They left the Bronx in 1978 and settled in their forever home in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Barbara loved the quiet and nature that came with living in Croton. Her passion for gardening and nature was abundant when you visited their home, with beautiful plantings and wild birds. Barbara would never let you leave their home without a gift of a new plant. She would say “just put it in the ground and you will see what happens”. Her passion for watching her son grow and take care of her home was infectious. Barbara had a deep love of her family, from her, husband, to her son, to her five siblings in Germany to her two grandchildren in the U.S., she would do anything in her power to make their lives better.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, grandchildren Alexis E. Hasko (19) and Ryan K. Hasko (15), sister Irmgard Schoneich and Joanne Hasko.

She was predeceased by her son Kenneth H. Hasko, sisters, Waltraud Fritz, MarieAnnie Klose, Siegfried Schoneich and Leonard Schoneich.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd from 12-4pm at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520, where a funeral service will take place at 3:30pm. Interment will be Private.
