Born on January 23, 1943, in Ossining, NY. Charles grew up in Croton-on-Hudson. After graduating from Croton-Harmon schools, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy, where he served with honor aboard the USS Boxer from 1963 to 1967. He was proud to receive the National Defense Service Medal for his dedication.
Charles went on to build a remarkable 41-year career with Metro-North Railroad, rising to Senior Engineer of Signals. His coworkers admired his integrity, loyalty, and tireless work ethic, but what he was most proud of was being able to provide a wonderful life for his family.
Charles found joy in building and fixing things—especially around his home, where his handiwork created a warm and welcoming place for all who visited. He also loved cheering on the New York Yankees, a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Charles’ greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Vanda, his true partner in life. He was a loving father to Donna (John Nikic), Kenneth, and Dean (Christine), and a devoted grandfather to Ryan Clifford (Ariel), Madison & Aidan Nikic, and Camryn Bryk. He cherished every family gathering, holiday, ballgame, and milestone, always showing up with a smile and an open heart.
Charles was the son of Arthur M. Bryk and Grace M. Bryk (both predeceased), and brother of Patricia Conklin. His memory will live on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the home he treasured, and the countless lives he touched with kindness, humor, and love.
