September 8, 1936 – May 14, 2018
Dorothy “Dodie” Dymes Pezanowski passed away on Mother’s Day after a brief illness. She died peacefully having spent the last week of her life visiting with family and friends. Dodie was born on September 8, 1936 and happily lived in Croton her entire life. She was very proud of the three jobs she held: mother to her three children; secretary at Croton Harmon High School; and Historian for the Village of Croton. Through these she touched the lives of many people and knew generations of Crotonites young and old. Dodie was a graduate of SUNY Morrisville College and while raising her family, helped her beloved husband, Jack, run his roofing business. She enjoyed reading, working on history projects with CHHS students, gazing out at the Hudson River and cheering on the Lyndon State men’s lacrosse team. Dodie was an active volunteer all of her life from a Girl Scout leader to a member of the CHHS Reunion Committee. The only place she loved as much as Croton was the beach in Prouts Neck, Maine. The Village of Croton has lost a great treasure with her death.
Dodie is predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her parents, Bill and Billie Dymes. She is survived by her brother, Donnie Dymes and his four children, Audrey, Don, John, and Ruth, and her dear nephew and niece Bob and Liz Pezanowski. Her children and grandchildren feel her loss deeply, but treasure their memories of her. May the road rise to meet you Mom: Elaine (Jim) Loft; Kevin (Beth) Pezanowski; Karen (Sean) Higman; Gretchen and Hallie; Abby and Leah; Ryan (Claire), Matt (Samantha), and Caitie. The family wishes to thank her dear friends, Judy and Aurelia for their devoted care, and her neighbor, Eric Bishop for his help and support over many years.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Benedict Blvd., Croton on Saturday, June 9, at 11:00 am, at which time the family will receive guests. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations in Dodie’s honor to the Pezanowski Memorial Scholarship at Croton Harmon High School. Gifts can be made payable to CHUFSD, Croton Harmon School District, 10 Gerstein Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.

Dodie, it has been a great 82 years and our memories of our times together in school back at PVC and CHHS will never be forgotten. We remember fondly the date when we three couples went out on what we always called the Bean Wagon date and probably you have dismissed it with all you have accomplished. Our sincere condolences to the Pezanowski family for their loss. May your pain be lessened knowing that we are sharing the pain with you. Dodie will be missed.
