Irene F Rick

Irene F. Rick, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on August 25, 2026. She was 73 years old. Irene was born on January 27, 1953 in Ossining, NY to the late Eben and Joyce (Colbran) Slaving.

She was a proud graduate of Croton-Harmon High School and began her professional career in the insurance industry. Later in life, she followed a new calling and returned to school to earn her LPN certification. She began her nursing career at Riverside Pediatrics, now part of NewYork-Presbyterian, where her caring nature and compassion for others became an important part of her life’s work.

Outside of her career, she found happiness in the things she loved most. She enjoyed gardening, baking, listening to live music, dancing in the dining room, and spending sunny days at the beach. She also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, who were much more than pets—they were cherished members of her family. Her animals brought her tremendous joy and were always surrounded by the same love and affection she gave so freely to the people in her life.

But above all else, her greatest joy and proudest role was being the matriarch of her family.

She was an amazing mother and grandmother whose love was felt in everything she did. Her family was her world, and her home was always a place where everyone was welcome. She was the person who was always prepared, always had something to offer, and somehow always had cookies and snacks ready for anyone who happened to stop by. Her door—and her heart—were always open.

She created a home filled with love, laughter, food, music, traditions, and memories. She was the person her family could count on, the one who brought everyone together, and the heart of countless family gatherings and celebrations.

Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind and the love she gave so freely to each of them. The lessons she taught, the traditions she created, the stories she shared, and the memories she made will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and generations to come.

She will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the way she made the people around her feel—loved, welcomed, cared for, and always at home.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and forever remain the heart of her family.

She is survived by her husband Gary; daughters Lindsay and Lauren; and Grandson Lucas. She is also survived by her sisters; Janet and Linda; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1st from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520, where an informal service is also scheduled for 7:30pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to SPCA Westchester.
