

William Joseph “Bill” Kelly, a proud Bronx native, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 11, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, Bill was the beloved son of Catherine Bannon Kelly, born in County Roscommon, Ireland, and William J. Kelly, born in County Galway, Ireland. Raised with strong Irish roots and values, Bill carried his deep love of family, hard work, and loyalty throughout his life.
Bill attended Our Lady of Solace and graduated from St. Helena’s High School. He went on to build a remarkable career as an Operating Engineer with Hallen Construction, where he worked for more than 50 years. Bill was also a proud and dedicated member of Local 15 IUOE for over five decades, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends throughout his career. Bill proudly served in the United States Army Reserves, carrying that same sense of dedication and honor into every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his siblings Mary Kelly Glenn Nutt, Walter Kelly, and Joan Larkin, and pre-deceased by his sister Catherine Kelly Murray. He cherished the bond he shared with his siblings and the many memories they created. In 1983, Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Harper, a partnership filled with love, laughter, travel, endless memories, and devotion. They were married on September 12, 1998, and together built a beautiful life and home centered around family. In 1995, they purchased their home in Croton, where they spent nearly 30 wonderful years creating cherished memories before later moving to Cortlandt Manor. Together, Bill and Nancy built not only memories, but a beautiful family over the years.
He was the loving father of William Kelly Jr.; Jenette Kelly Altobello (Jay); Staci Luposello (Ron); Michael Feminella (Danielle); and John Feminella. He was the cherished “Grampy” to AJ Mistretta, of whom Bill shared a very special bond with. AJ was a constant presence in Bill’s life - spending time with him, keeping him company, and helping care for him. He was also the grandfather to Lauren, Marissa (Michael), Lindsey, Katie, Sage, Michael, Jason, Alexa, and also blessed to be the proud great-grandfather of Gia and Josie, who brought him endless joy. Bill is also lovingly remembered by his sister/brother-in-law’s, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He held a special place in his heart for his extended family and cherished the many memories and relationships shared with them throughout his life.
Bill found peace and happiness with his time spent outdoors. Bill had a deep love for nature and found great joy in gardening, caring for plants, and spending time outside. He took great pride in creating and caring for his gardens, including building a beautiful garden wall by hand. Bill also enjoyed cruising around in his prized toys, whether it be his vintage Triumph’s, his Harley, or in his little red Corvette. He will be remembered for his playful spirit. Whether sharing stories, teasing family and friends, or finding comic relief in everyday moments, Bill will be remembered for his humor and his laugh, strength, loyalty, hard work, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on in the many lives that he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New York Botanical Garden dedicated to preserving gardens, trees, and the beauty of nature – all things that brought Bill great peace and joy.
