Arlene Garcia was born on October 23, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Marie Mitchell. She was the second oldest of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Mitchell; her daughter, Jacqeline Y. Fox; siblings, Carolyn Mitchell, Alice Perry, David Mitchell, Doris Vinson, and Sherman Mitchell; daughter, Angela (Garcia) Letbetter; and son, James Garcia.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of thirty-two years, Enocencio Garcia; her loving son, John L. Fox, IV; daughter-in-love, Kathlene L. Fox; sister, LaTonya Mitchell; sister-in-law, Annette Mitchell; her grandchildren, John L. Fox, V, Briana N. Fox, Jaylen I. Fox; and great-grandchildren, Naomi Serenity Fox and Damarious Sincere Johnson; caring daughter, Theresa Garcia and her sons, Anthony Garcia, Thomas Garcia, and Jeffrey Garcia, and daughter, Susan Garcia; and a host of extended family and friends who were all touched by Arlene's remarkable light.

Arlene graduated in 1960 from Tolleston High School in Gary, IN, and went on to work and retire, after many years of faithful service, from Bethlehem Steel Mill in Burns Harbor, IN. Her strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment was a reflection of how she lived her life. Arlene loved her husband, family, friends, and people in general.

Arlene lived wholeheartedly for Christ, making Him the center of her life. She cared deeply about the souls of others and faithfully shared God’s love, encouraging people to know Jesus and place their hope in Him. She served many years in church ministries. Though she will be greatly missed, her legacy of faith continues to point others to Christ.

A Memorial Service for Arlene will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 1:30 - 2:30 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
