

Betty J. Knapik, age 85, formerly of Dyer, Florida, and North Carolina, passed away on November 9, 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina. Betty spent most of her adult life living in Dyer. She also enjoyed homes in South Carolina, Florida, and most recently Asheville, N.C. She is survived by her daughters: Linda(late Eddie) Barnett of Schererville, Connie Smith(Mark Staley) of Asheville, N.C., and son John(Janice) Knapik of Jacksonville, FL.;Granddaughters: Sherry (John) Barnes of Jacksonville FL,; Gina (Chris) Bakker of St. John IN. and Jody (Keith) Heim of Dyer IN;Great Granddaughters: Betsy Barnes and Hayley Barnes of Jacksonville, FL as well as special beloved children: Mark Jr., Victoria, and Victor Stayley of Asheville. She is also survived by her loving companion of 30 years, Richard Brennan of Hammond, IN and dearest lifelong friend Virginia “Ginny” Seeds of Schererville, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. Betty was preceded in death by her husband John P. Knapik, in 1980, and son-in-law Eddie G. Barnett, in 2005. Betty spent the last two years living in Asheville, N.C., being cared for and nurtured by her loving daughter, Connie, and her family. She accepted her illness the same way she lived her life, with dignity. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends and family are invited to meet with the family at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, Indiana on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. There will be a funeral service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Greg Lee of Suncrest Christian Church, St. John, officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
