Carol Y. Ondra, age 76, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 with her loving family at her side.
Carol is the loving wife of 50 years to Ronald Ondra; devoted mother to Jennifer (Dennis) Cicala; proud grandmother to Ben and Max Cicala; cherished sister to Beth (Larry) Stolts and Erin Burch; fond daughter to the late George and Phyllis Burch; daughter-in-law to the late Steve and Ethel Ondra; and excellent caretaker to her faithful companion, Goldie.
Carol is a 1969 graduate of Indiana State University, majoring in Music Education. She obtained her master's degree in 1975 at Valparaiso University. She is a member of SAI International Music Fraternity since 1966 and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Women's Educators since 1978. She served as secretary for the Julia Watkins Brass Chapter of DAR. Carol retired in 2006 after over 37 years of faithful service as Choral and Handbell Director at Grimmer Middle School. She was also a pianist and choral director at area churches since 1987. In her retirement, Carol enjoyed serving as an accompanist and pianist to various local high schools, festivals and productions. Carol was passionate about her family and music, and touched many lives. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2024 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. She will be entombed in Tranquility Mausoleum in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
