Carolyn was raised in Cedar Lake, IN. She completed 8th grade, then left school to help her mother raise her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed playing softball and it was during one of her games that she met Robert Britton, Jr., who would later become her husband. She didn’t realize that the foul ball she hit, which shattered Robert’s windshield, would be the beginning of the greatest love story of her life. Carolyn and Robert were married in Alcorn, Mississippi on July 25, 1952. While raising nine children, Carolyn always supported Robert with his endeavors, such as building their first home, and numerous houses after that, as well as tending to their farm animals. She was a hardworking homemaker and stay-at-home mom who was dedicated to her family. Carolyn was generous with her time and would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Everyone who knew her knew they were welcome in her home anytime. If her smile didn’t touch your heart, she would reach it through your stomach, as she was an amazing cook. Carolyn was an avid Bunco player, and always looked forward to the monthly Bunco Club get-togethers. She even taught many of her grandchildren how to play the game. At the age of 60, Carolyn decided to get her first driver’s license, an accomplishment that her whole family was proud of. Carolyn enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida, so she and her husband could escape the harsh Indiana weather and visit some of their children and their families. She was an amazing woman who will be dearly missed and will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
