Dennis L. Prowicz

Den was a loving and devoted husband to Fran; beloved Dad to Rick (Donna) Prowicz, and Dave (Karen) Prowicz; proud Grandpa and Papa to Faith, Ryan, and Hannah Prowicz; loving son to the late Walter and the late Wilma (Wojcik) Prowicz; cherished brother to Jerry (Elaine) Prowicz; loved son-in-law to the late Emil and Shirley Brzozowski; loving brother-in-law to the late Tommy, Susie, Joey and Pat, Barbara, Dori and Bill, and the late Geri; and loved uncle and friend to many!

Den was born and raised in Chicago, IL. In 1964, Den met the love of his life, Fran Brzozowski, a cute server at the Sidewalk Cafe. This blossomed into their 61 year love story with 57 years of marriage.

Den honorably served our country in the Army National Guard. In 1968, he began his career as a Chicago Police Officer where he protected his community and upheld justice. Den was very humble about his courage and the many accredited awards received for his bravery as a police officer. Den served the Chicago Police Department for 34 years, ending his career as an Evidence Technician, then working in the Crime Lab until he retired in 2002.

In earlier days, Den spent the summer coaching his son’s Little League Team and playing in 16 inch softball leagues. In the winter months, he played in a bowling league. Den also enjoyed playing poker and fishing with family and friends. Later, golf became Den’s favorite pastime. Throughout it all, Den remained a devoted Chicago Bears and Cubs Fan.

Den especially enjoyed 23 years of retirement traveling with Frannie, family and friends, with Las Vegas being his favorite vacation destination. As a proud and loving grandfather, his ultimate vacation was when he took his family to Walt Disney World and had the time of his life with his grandchildren! Den and Fran would often take trips to Chicago just to get their fix of Home Run Inn Pizza, Gene and Judes Hot Dogs, and stock up on some of their favorite items from the polish deli.

Den was a strong person and held firm to his beliefs. He was cheerful with a good sense of humor and a twist of sarcasm. No matter his health challenges, when you asked him how he was doing, he’d say with a smile and conviction, “I’m good!” He loved his life, wife, and family, including his furry child, Sadie, and conveyed that love every day! Den’s genuine good nature and loving ways will be greatly missed by all who love him.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of his memorial Mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 8303 West Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410.
