

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Patricia (nee Callahan); children, George (Eileen) Broderick of Apex, NC, Donald (Maryanne) Broderick, Jr. of Plover, WI, and James (Miri) Broderick of Glen Ridge, NJ; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Veronica Broderick; brothers, Robert Broderick and James Broderick; and sister, Bernice Kennedy.
Don was born on July 25, 1931, and was raised in Whiting, IN. He was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute and, following military service during the Korean War, graduated from Indiana State University. He later earned a master’s degree from Roosevelt University. He was a teacher and principal in the Hammond school system for 37 years. Following retirement in 1994, he continued to work as a student teacher supervisor for Ball State University, and as a substitute teacher throughout many local schools.
A loving and devoted husband and father, he enjoyed coaching children’s basketball teams, and served as a mentor and role model to so many throughout the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 25th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 8303 West Taft Street, Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family at 9:00 am prior to the service.
