Dorothy was the loving wife to the late Fred Matthews; beloved mother to Brenda (Mark) Mason, Virginia (the late Kenneth) Higgins, Charles (Betty) Matthews, Fred (Flor) Matthews, the late Jewell Dean Flores, and John (Vickey) Matthews; proud grandmother to Kenneth (Meganne) Gillam, Shannon (the late Don) Mills, Scott Gillam, Steven (Angie) Higgins, Curtis Higgins, Darren (Roxanne) Higgins, Jennifer (Mike) Topolski, Jeffrey (Tricia) Matthews, Lisa (Harry) Mabs, Deanna (Artty) Fowler, Elton (Nicole) Roberts, and Kim Matthews; great-grandmother of 20; and great-great grandmother of five.
Dorothy was a master homemaker. She loved to garden and can her own vegetables. She was a talented quilter, and enjoyed giving her quilts and embroidery pieces to those she loved. She loved to sing hymns with her husband while he played guitar at church services and at home. She and Fred relocated to Northwest Indiana in the early 1950's from Alabama. Her heart was always in Alabama, and she always looked forward to the family yearly trips back home to Alabama. The family is comforted knowing that she is now reunited with her husband, daughter, and her Alabama family again, which she so richly believed in.
