Elli Mina Lotte Quandt, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2022 at the Northwest Health Center in LaPorte, IN. Born in 1927 in Berlin, Germany, Elli experienced an adolescence under extreme wartime conditions of hunger and city-wide bombings, while completing her education in retail fashion. It was during the Berlin Airlift that Elli met and married the love of her life, Wallace Paul Quandt, who was stationed in Berlin with the US Army.
Elli quickly found herself living a new life in Northwest Indiana and even rural Minnesota on a dairy farm. In all areas of adapting to her new life, from learning to speak English to cooking, canning and baking, Elli was a true partner and helpmate throughout her 68 year long marriage to Wallace. Warmth and hospitality, along with baked goods - like her famous banana bread - defined her and enriched the life of her family. While modest about her domestic skills, Elli proudly shared her greatest joy and accomplishment of being a mother to her three children.
Elli is survived by her children, Colleen Kubica (Pacific Grove, CA), Jasmine Buss (Rolling Prairie, IN), Philip Quandt (Indianapolis, IN); grandchildren, Lindsay Millar (San Francisco, CA), Josh Goldsmith (Danville, CA), Elliot Buss (Dania Beach, FL); and great-grandson, Madden Millar (San Francisco, CA). Her husband, Wallace, predeceased Elli in 2017.
