

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Virginia Spejewski; his son, Anthony Cheky Sr.; his brothers, Ed and Chester "Chet" Spejewski; and his sister, Stella Darnell.
Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Doris Spejewski; his daughter, Karyn (Tom) Gallas; his sons, Russell, Richard “Rick,” and Mark Spejewski; and his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cheky. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Jongsma; his grandchildren, Marissa, Korey, Kamron, Kaitlyn, Logan, Madison, Anthony, and Jacob; and several great-grandchildren.
Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball and football games. Fate brought him and his beloved wife, Doris, together at a Cubs game, beginning a love story that lasted nearly five decades.
A man of curiosity and adventure, Eugene loved traveling and exploring the world. He visited eight countries throughout Europe and traveled to all but four states in the United States. He enjoyed working puzzles, playing cards and dice games, and spending time looking through photo albums, fondly reminiscing about his many travels and treasured memories.
Nothing brought Eugene greater happiness than attending his grandchildren's sporting events and supporting their accomplishments. He was known for his exceptional kindness, resilience, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His warm spirit and generous heart made him a beloved neighbor and friend to many.
Eugene's legacy of love, service, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on June 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. A Committal Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m., with a luncheon to follow.
