Franklin J. Abatie

Franklin Joseph Abatie age 88, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan E. Abatie. Together they raised 3 children, Julie (Dan) Gamaleri, Frank Jr. (Sherrie) Abatie and Jonathan (Georgia) Abatie; grandchildren, Michael Gamaleri, Cody (Jessica) Abatie, Shannon Mingo, and Shelby Flynn; great-grandchildren, Neveah Abatie, Bianca Abatie-Serna and Carson Abatie.

Franklin was born February 18, 1931 in Hammond, IN, to the late Frank and Lydia Abatie.

Franklin was a huge Cubs, Blackhawks and Bears fan. He was a great handyman around the house and would rather fix it than buy new. He retired from American Steel Foundries with 41 years of service as a millwright. Franklin proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He loved to watch his grandson Michael play baseball.

Franklin was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Rev. Charles W. Niblick officiating.

Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
