

JAMES (“Jimmy”) CHARLES MYERS, Hammond, Indiana, 53 years old passed away on January 20, 2015 after a valiant fight with End Stage Renal Failure. He was preceded in death by loving father, James John Myers and beloved Step-Son, Kevin J. Hardy, Jr. He is survived by loving Wife of 24 years, Kathleen Myers; sons: Adam Joseph Hardy (Nichole Cannon) of Knox, Indiana; Jason Matthew Myers, Timothy James Myers and his beloved therapy dog: Rusty, all of Hammond, Indiana and adorable Grandson: Cameron Alexander Hardy (Knox, Indiana). He is also survived by Mother: Judy Myers (Waxhaw, NC); Sisters: Joyce (Paul) Lewis (Waxhaw, NC); Janet (Gregory) Tano (Leroy, Indiana) and his niece and nephews: Gregory and Ginell Tano and Andy, Michael and Jimmy Lewis and many other friends, co-workers, medical staff and family members that loved him dearly.
Jimmy was Gavit High School Class of 1979 and an Honors Graduate (3.85 out of 4.0) of Lincoln Technical Institute in December, 1990. His major was Automotive/Diesel Technology and he specialized in automotive engines post-graduation.
Jimmy had a stellar career with the University of Chicago Hospitals, Materials Management and Receiving Departments from 1994 until 2009 when he retired due to his illness. He is also a retired member of SEIU, Local 73, Chicago, IL.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father and beloved friend. His smile lit up a room wherever he went and he had and gave the gift of laughter and love to all who knew him. His prime hobby was rebuilding cars and could fix anything you put in front of him from classics to computerized newer cars; to computers and some construction.
Jimmy was the only boy in his family so his friends were all like brothers to him. He was also a very loving husband and devoted father to all his boys and the best friend anyone could ask for.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation and remembrance of the fun and laughter they shared with Jimmy at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave. Schererville, IN on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 6-10pm and funeral services on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 12Noon with burial immediately following.
