James Young

James H. Young, of Cedar Lake, IN danced in to his heavenly home at the age of 92, on Sunday, July 18, 2021. James was born May 27, 1929 to the late Joe Cephus and Janie (Calvert) Young in Trafford, AL.

James retired after 35 years at Youngstown / Mittal Steel. He was a member of Hammond 1st Assembly (the Gate) for 65 years. The most recent years he faithfully attended Suncrest Christian Church with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved and gave the best hugs as a greeter at church for many years. James will forever be remembered for the joy he brought to all who knew him. He always had a joke or story to tell. James was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Janie Young of Trafford, AL; six brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law Stan Zack.

James leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Earline (Jones) Young; four children, Debbie (Joe) Gifford, of Valparaiso, IN, Sheila Zack, of Cedar Lake, IN, Wendy (Rev. Jamie) Englehart, of New Albany, IN, Mark (Christy) Young, of Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Nell Clevenger; eight grandchildren, Brian (Angie) Gifford, Christopher (Janneal) Gifford, Jason (Jennifer) Zack, Jennifer Zack Brooks (Paul), Brittany Englehart Rocha (Estevan), Brandon Englehart (La'Shyla Nelson), Madison Young, Christian Young; 11 great-grandchildren, Zion, Alex, Lily, Cheyenne, Caitlin, Cayleigh, Zach, Evan, Eli, Caydence, Ariyah; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and beloved neighbors.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 10AM -12PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home - 8178 Cline Ave. Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service to honor James will begin at 12PM with Dr. J. Calaway officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
