Janice S. Mitchell

Janice S. Mitchell, age 85, of Dyer, IN, passed away on December 20, 2025. Janice was born in Gary, IN on October 4, 1940. She went to high school at Lew Wallace before transferring over to Merrillville High School to finish out her education. Janice was a high-performing realtor and broker in the real estate market in Indiana for many years. She also ran her own personal boutique business on the side.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Camille and Daniel Sobat; and sister, Camille S. Mann.

Janice is survived by her sister, Donna Adams; significant other William W. Gurtler; nephew, Daniel (Amy) Hayes; and niece, Tamara Kruse; great-nephews, Spencer Hayes and Alex (Ari) Hayes; and great-niece, Margaret (Ben) Kroeger. Janice is also survived by her step-children, Lori (Brian) Dormeier, Bill (Ping) Mitchell, and Lisa (Gary) McCall; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Wotherspoon and William (Mallory) Mitchell; and six step great-grandchildren.

Janice lit up every room she entered. She will be remembered for her great personality and endless charisma.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am.
